Description
Cornus mas (Cornelian Cherry) is a charming multi-season deciduous shrub or small tree. It brightens the late winter garden with clusters of small, bright yellow flowers that appear on bare branches. Its glossy green foliage follows in spring, turning rich purple-red in autumn. By late summer, it produces edible, cherry-like red fruits that can be used in jams and preserves or left for wildlife. Tolerant of a wide range of soils and conditions, it’s ideal for mixed borders, woodland edges or as a naturalistic hedge.
