Rhyncospermum jasminodes
Rhyncospermum jasminoides is an evergreen vine that belongs to the Apocynaceae family. It is native to East Asia, specifically China and Japan, and is widely cultivated for its fragrant flowers and attractive foliage.
Description
Rhyncospermum jasminoides typically climbs or trails along surfaces, reaching a height of 2 to 6 meters (6 to 20 feet). It has glossy, dark green leaves that are oval-shaped and arranged opposite each other along the stems. The leaves provide an elegant backdrop for the striking flowers.
In late spring or early summer, Rhyncospermum jasminoides produces an abundance of small, star-shaped flowers that are white or cream in colour. The flowers are highly fragrant, emitting a sweet and captivating scent that fills the air.
Beyond its attractive flowers, the Rhyncospermum has a dense growth habit and can also provide a lush and verdant cover for fences, trellises, or walls. The plant’s vines can be trained to climb or cascade, adding a touch of elegance to vertical spaces in the garden.
It is a relatively low-maintenance vine with good resistance to pests and diseases as well as adding beauty, fragrance, and a touch of romance to outdoor spaces.
